Why “You Are Who You Attract” Is A Blatant Lie

Imagine walking down the street and a homeless person asks for money. You either decline or decide to give some change.

This interaction would mean you are now homeless as well.

Do you see how ridiculous that sounds? Of course, you’re not homeless.

Celebrities attract all kinds of people — including stalkers. That does not make them one. Luxury stores attract high-net-worth clients. They also attract thieves.

I use these extreme examples to make a point. That point being is the statement at hand is bs. No one has control over the people they attract. Since when are we responsible for the behaviors/actions of the people who come our way?

Some may read this and say; “That’s not what it means. It’s not about meeting random people, but the ones you form relationships with. People are attracted to those they find commonality with.

I run into almost every kind of person in life. I come across kind, weird, strange, mean, and downright evil people. Is that to say I am all of these things? Of course not.

Being an upstanding person does not stop you from attracting people who aren’t. If we were in control of everyone we interacted with, everyone we…
