This Is Your Reminder To Get Started

There’s no such thing as the perfect time

“You may delay, but time will not.” — Benjamin Franklin

One thing I’ve learned over the years is waiting for the perfect moment is a surefire way to never start.

I used to be that person. I convinced myself having the latest gear, better environment, or more knowledge would lead to me getting started. That mindset kept me stuck for a long time.

The Trap of Perfectionism

You have this great idea for a YouTube channel or business. But then you start listing all the things you “need” before you get started:

A top-of-the-line camera

A professional logo

A fully fleshed-out content strategy

A better environment

Before you know it, your idea is sitting on the shelf with all the other ideas you’ve had.

Starting Small

Some of the most successful creators began their journeys with nothing more than what they had available. Take Popular gaming YouTuber Dashie, for example.

My boyyyy! — Dashie

Dashie has been making gaming content for over 13 years. I remember watching him about ten years ago when he made Happy Wheels videos. Back then, he didn’t even use a camera — just his voice to record. Around that time, he was starting to develop a persona that will take him to where he is now.

As time went on, he started using a small camera to record his reactions, and that’s when things began to change. His video quality improved, and he became more comfortable in front of the camera — although, he risked getting kicked out of his apartment countless times from yelling during recordings.

Now, he’s using high-tech gear, a green screen, and made a lane for himself in the gaming community with 6.8 million subscribers and 3 billion lifetime views (and he can yell all he wants!)

Rosanna Pansino (YouTube)

Rosanna Pansino’s journey on YouTube is another example of how starting small can lead to big success. 13 years ago, Pansino launched her cooking show, Nerdy Nummies, as a hobby. Fast-forward to today, and it has become the most popular cooking series on YouTube, with weekly videos attracting hundreds of thousands of views and over 3 billion lifetime views on her channel.

Her success extends beyond YouTube — she’s written cookbooks and launched a baking line inspired by her show. This growth shows that starting small can lead to unexpected opportunities.

The takeaway? Don’t wait for perfect conditions to pursue your passion. Whether it’s cooking, gaming, or any other interest, the most important step is to just get started. Rosanna & Dashie’s evolution from dreamers to YouTube sensations is a powerful reminder of what can happen when you take that leap.

Embracing Imperfection

What is holding you back? Fear? You’re not alone.

Your first attempts won’t be perfect, and that’s okay. In fact, it’s more than okay — it’s necessary. Every piece of content you create, every video you edit, every article you write is a step towards improvement. You learn by doing, not by planning endlessly. It’s about who is the most talented, but the most consistent. The cost of success is willing to look like a fool while everyone else looks normal.

Why? Normal people are average. Normal people are afraid to try. To get where you want to be in life, you have to be conformable with finding your lane until you get it down.

Instead of waiting for the stars to align, take that first step today.

Write your first blog post here on Medium

Record a video using your phone’s camera

Write your business idea on Notion. No computer? Use a notebook!

Once you start, it’s up to you to find the momentum to keep you going. Ideas will flow more freely, and you’ll naturally seek out ways to improve and grow.

Your Turn to Shine

Don’t let the fear of imperfection hold you back. Embrace the journey, flaws and all. Your unique voice and perspective are valuable, and the world is waiting to hear from you.

Remember, every successful person you admire started somewhere. They didn’t wake up one day with a million followers or a thriving business. They built it piece by piece, learning and adapting along the way.

The only thing left for you to do is to get started. Your future self will thank you for taking that first, imperfect step today.

We as humans can learn a lot from ants. Don’t be nice, be kind.
